This exceptional Large Square Mirror showcases the artistry of early 18th century English design through its unusual paneled construction. Measuring 126.3cm in both height and width, this Statement Mirror commands attention with its distinctive combination of medium burr walnut framing and light burl oak inset panels. The Square Mirror features overlaid cast patinated brass ornaments at each corner, adding metallic accents that catch the light and create visual interest. This thoughtful detail transforms a simple Wall Mirror into a decorative focal point. The contrast between the rich Walnut Mirror frame and the lighter oak burr veneers creates depth and character rarely seen in contemporary pieces. Part of the Jonathan Charles Nottinghamshire Collection, this Large Wall Mirror represents a departure from the heavier mahogany pieces of later periods. The collection draws inspiration from traditional English designs while offering a lighter, less formal aesthetic that suits both period and modern interiors. The unusual paneled construction sets this Walnut Mirror apart from typical designs. Each burl oak panel displays unique grain patterns and natural variations, ensuring no two mirrors are exactly alike. The medium burr walnut finish provides a beautiful backdrop that highlights the natural figure of both woods. As a Statement Mirror, this piece works brilliantly above consoles, fireplaces, or as a centerpiece in dining rooms and hallways. The generous square format reflects maximum light while the decorative frame ensures it serves as artwork even when not in use. The brass corner ornaments add an unexpected touch that bridges traditional craftsmanship with distinctive style. This Oak Mirror exemplifies the Nottinghamshire Collection's approach to creating pieces that honor English furniture traditions while remaining accessible for contemporary homes.

Jonathan Charles Fine Furniture
Jonathan Charles Fine Furniture is the vision of Jonathan Sowter, an English furniture designer who excels at the art of fine antique reproduction. They design and manufacture the highest-quality European antique replicas as well as their own unique transitional designs, which are distributed to the best shops and interior designers throughout North America, U.K., Spain, Italy, Russia and France, just to name a few.
What makes them different is their meticulous attention-to-detail and pursuit of high-quality construction. This has propelled their company growth from just ten employees in April 2004 to over 1,400 in December 2011. Their passion for detail is also reflected in their in-house brass foundry, in which their manufacture their own hardware so that when they design a new piece of furniture they can also design one-of-a-kind pulls, hinges, locks and even keys for that piece.
It is their aim to constantly expand into new markets, while continuing to be a brand synonymous with the finer things in life.
They are craftsmen
Jonathan Charles works with artisans who display a large range of skills. They take pride in their work, which is evident in their beautifully-crafted antique replicas. They go far beyond just creating furniture that resembles English classics. They employ age-old techniques, which breathe soul and lasting-quality into their products.
They are designers
Many of their inspirations come from original antiques that Jonathan discovers in his travels. Sometimes, they will reproduce them as accurately as possible, while at other times they will take a detail that they like and design a completely new piece of furniture around that feature.
Oftentimes, they will start the design process from scratch. They gather inspiration from a variety of sources – be it a classic wallpaper design, nature, classic antiques, a rare object, or jewelry.
They never design to the limitations of their factory, and have actually expanded their factory as they have developed new skills in advanced marquetry, bronze casting, hand carving and much more.
They stand for quality
They never compromise on design and would be foolish to compromise on quality. Only the finest materials are used in their furniture. They also employ inspectors that ensure technically-sound components and design throughout the process. These experts oversee production, checking in at key transaction points so that nothing is overlooked. Before an item is packaged, it is reviewed with a keen eye and must pass a comprehensive checklist by their quality control inspector.
