Jonathan Charles Walnut Bureau Cabinet Writing Desk with Marquetry is an extraordinary made-to-order piece from the La Rochelle Collection, created for interiors where ordinary furniture simply will not do. Crafted from acacia wood and walnut in a walnut light finish, its grand cabinet-on-chest form is dressed in burl walnut and contrasting seaweed marquetry. Twin upper doors open to reveal a fully lined writing interior with inlaid drawers, a small cupboard and a pull-out slide, making the interior every bit as remarkable as the exterior. Two short and two long lower drawers provide generous storage while preserving the cabinet’s stately proportions and intricate pattern work. Each swirling arabesque panel is carefully placed across the doors, drawer fronts and sides, creating a richly detailed façade that rewards closer inspection. Brass handles and fittings, cast using the traditional lost-wax technique, give the piece the weight and character expected of exceptional cabinetmaking. Measuring W 53 3/4" x H 75 1/4" x D 21 3/4", this substantial Luxury Walnut Bureau Cabinet is designed to command a library, drawing room or executive study. Produced only to order, it offers a rare opportunity to acquire a Jonathan Charles Writing Cabinet with true collector appeal and an unmistakable presence.

Jonathan Charles Fine Furniture
Jonathan Charles Fine Furniture is the vision of Jonathan Sowter, an English furniture designer who excels at the art of fine antique reproduction. They design and manufacture the highest-quality European antique replicas as well as their own unique transitional designs, which are distributed to the best shops and interior designers throughout North America, U.K., Spain, Italy, Russia and France, just to name a few.
What makes them different is their meticulous attention-to-detail and pursuit of high-quality construction. This has propelled their company growth from just ten employees in April 2004 to over 1,400 in December 2011. Their passion for detail is also reflected in their in-house brass foundry, in which their manufacture their own hardware so that when they design a new piece of furniture they can also design one-of-a-kind pulls, hinges, locks and even keys for that piece.
It is their aim to constantly expand into new markets, while continuing to be a brand synonymous with the finer things in life.
They are craftsmen
Jonathan Charles works with artisans who display a large range of skills. They take pride in their work, which is evident in their beautifully-crafted antique replicas. They go far beyond just creating furniture that resembles English classics. They employ age-old techniques, which breathe soul and lasting-quality into their products.
They are designers
Many of their inspirations come from original antiques that Jonathan discovers in his travels. Sometimes, they will reproduce them as accurately as possible, while at other times they will take a detail that they like and design a completely new piece of furniture around that feature.
Oftentimes, they will start the design process from scratch. They gather inspiration from a variety of sources – be it a classic wallpaper design, nature, classic antiques, a rare object, or jewelry.
They never design to the limitations of their factory, and have actually expanded their factory as they have developed new skills in advanced marquetry, bronze casting, hand carving and much more.
They stand for quality
They never compromise on design and would be foolish to compromise on quality. Only the finest materials are used in their furniture. They also employ inspectors that ensure technically-sound components and design throughout the process. These experts oversee production, checking in at key transaction points so that nothing is overlooked. Before an item is packaged, it is reviewed with a keen eye and must pass a comprehensive checklist by their quality control inspector.
